I hope you are all keeping well and enjoying any of the groups and activities you have been attending.
As you all may be aware, we will be celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Burnham on Crouch u3a, at an open day on Friday 6th September 2024.
But as you will see from Jo’s message (below), at our AGM in May we will need to fill a number of vacancies on our Committee – including the roles of Chair and Vice-Chair since I am due to stand down having completed my 3-year term of office and our Vice-Chair has also decided to step down. Unless we are able to fill the position of Chair at our AGM on 3rd May, our u3a will have to close – it will no longer exist. We also need members to come forward to help in the other vacant roles, including that of Vice-Chair. Let me emphasise that none of the vacant roles are too demanding, and I and other committee members would be more than happy to talk to you about what they actually involve.
And we are looking for someone straight away who can take overall responsibility for organising the refreshments rota, supplies, etc at our monthly meetings. There’s no requirement for whoever takes on this role to join the committee. It’s a straightforward job, and you should have plenty of willing helpers – but if no one volunteers for this role, there may be no refreshments available at the monthly meetings and we really don’t want that to happen.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE - any of the roles, including committee positions, can be shared and are open to male and female.
Sorry to rant on, but this is YOUR u3a. We are all volunteers, and the more who volunteer to share the load, the better.
Hope to see you all soon!
Stay Safe, Stay Well. And give your help to YOUR u3a
Dave
Come Join Us
Our 2024 Annual General Meeting on 3rd May will see the standing down of our Chair, Dave Rae, our Vice-Chair, Geoff Charge and our Members’ Representative Anne Langley.
These positions will become available and now is the time to start thinking about filling those roles. If you feel that you would like to join our friendly, informal and inclusive committee, you would be most welcome to pop along to one or more of our meetings to see how we operate. We get together usually on the third Thursday morning of each month. We have a great room at the Old White Harte with refreshments half way through. You will know the importance of recruiting new members, Burnham u3a cannot operate without a Chair and Members need a voice. You could make a super new committee member. Have a think and let me know, Jo Gray, Secretary, on 07801 555026 or e-mail:
Jo Gray if you feel you would like to join us at a committee meeting in the near future.
